BRIDGEWATER - Township police are investigating the source of an odor that forced the evacuation of the cafeteria at Bridgewater-Raritan High School before noon on Friday
Police say they were dispatched to the main cafeteria for an unknown odor at about 11:45 a.m. The cafeteria was quickly evacuated and police, fire and rescue immediately responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a student possibly released pepper spray into the air, which at this time is believed to be the cause of the odor, police said in a news release.
Several students were being assessed by local EMS workers and the school nursing staff for possible exposure to pepper spray.
Students were allowed back into the school top finish the day.
